Ballet Book Shelf - Remembering Lynn Seymour

Updated: Jun 23, 2023

In Memory of Lynn Seymour CBE 1939 -2023

In this remarkably honest autobiography, Lynn Seymour explains why she was never the typical Royal Ballet dancer although more ballets were created for her than any other star except Margot Fonteyn. She describes how she managed to combine success in the most demanding of performing arts with notoriety, motherhood, and several official and unofficial marriages.

She writes of her intense creative relationship with the brilliant choreographer Kenneth MacMillan, who influenced and moulded her taste from the day he plucked a shy girl from the corps and began creating dances for her; the brief, dazzling partnership with Christopher Gable, her long friendship with Rudolf Nureyev and her impressions of personalities in dance, including Sir Frederick Ashton and Jerome Robbins.

This is not the easiest book to get a copy of, your local library may be your best bet, but I highly recommend this autobiography, it is fascinating, humorous and jaw dropping in equal parts.

There is a copy available on the Internet Archive, you will need to become a member, but it is free and it's a treasure trove of resources.
