Film of the Month/August 2018 - The Turning Point

The Turning Point is a 1977 film directed by Herbert Ross, it was nominated for 11 Academy Awards but came away empty handed (a record it shares with The Colour Purple for receiving the most Oscar nominations without a single win).


It is the story of two dancers DeeDee (Shirley Maclaine) and Emma (Anne Bancroft) who began their careers with the same company, but whose lives have taken very different paths.

DeeDee left the company for a family life and runs a Dance School, Emma remained and rose through the ranks to become a Prima Ballerina but knows her professional career is coming to an end. When the company performs in Oklahoma City on Tour the pair are reunited.


Mikhail Baryshnikov, Leslie Browne and Antoinette Sibley also star alongside many great names from ABT; look out for some incredible dance scenes and 1970's fashions:
